Live Music at The Taybank
A musical gathering place in the heart of Dunkeld & Birnam
Live music is at the heart of The Taybank and woven deeply into the pub’s history. Once owned by legendary Scottish songwriter Dougie MacLean, The Taybank has long been a welcoming home for traditional music, storytelling, and song. From intimate acoustic sessions to full-band evenings that lift the room, our pub and gardens host a range of local talent, touring artists and DJs, spanning Scottish trad, folk, blues, disco, indie, jazz, and everything in between. Settle in with a drink, enjoy great food, and let the music carry you.

FAQs
Can I book a table for music nights?
Unfortunately, music nights are walk-in only and we don’t take reservations. These evenings can get very busy, so if you’re hoping for a seat we recommend coming down a little earlier for a drink.
I’m a musician or DJ — can I play at The Taybank?
Absolutely. We’re always keen to hear from new artists. If traditional music is your thing, you’re very welcome to join our weekly Scottish trad session every Thursday from 8pm — just bring your instrument and jump in. If you’re interested in booking a gig, please email our team with some details and a few samples, and we’ll be in touch.
What time does the music start and finish
Set times can vary depending on the event, but most evening music starts around 8pm. Any specific timings will be listed on our events calendar.
Is there a cover charge for music nights?
Most of our sessions and gigs are free to attend, though occasional special events may have a small entry fee. If so, this will always be clearly advertised in advance.
Is the venue accessible during busy music nights?
We do our best to keep all areas accessible, but very busy evenings can be tight on space and there isn’t much seating available. Arriving earlier can make things a bit easier and if you require special assistance please speak to a member of the team.
Is there food available during music nights?
We only serve fulls meals in our restaurant upstairs during music nights, though often have bar bites or snacks available from the downstairs bar.
Do I need to be a musician to attend trad sessions?
Not at all. Everyone is welcome — whether you’re playing, listening, or just soaking up the atmosphere with a drink.
Are music nights suitable for children?
Earlier sessions and outdoor events are generally more family-friendly, but evening music nights can get busy and loud and usual licensing laws apply. Use your judgement, and feel free to ask our team if you’re unsure.
Can I bring my dog to a music night?
Dogs are welcome in all areas of The Taybank. That said, music nights can be loud and the floor can get extremely busy, which isn’t always ideal for our four-legged friends. If you’re able to leave your dog at home, they’d be much happier — but if not, they’re still welcome to join you.
Do you play music in the gardens?
Yes. Throughout spring and summer we host regular events in our beer garden and on the terrace. For upcoming outdoor music and events, please check our events page.
