The General Manager is the steward of The Taybank, responsible for protecting its character while ensuring the business runs with purpose, consistency and warmth. This role balances commercial performance with genuine hospitality, creating memorable experiences for guests, supporting a talented team, and nurturing the Taybank's place at the heart of the local community. Present, approachable and hands-on, the General Manager shapes the atmosphere of the business as much as its success.
Leading the team across the restaurant, rooms, gardens and events, the General Manager creates a culture where people take pride in their work, feel trusted to make decisions, and deliver thoughtful, relaxed hospitality. They oversee the day-to-day operation while helping The Taybank continue to evolve in a way that feels authentic to its riverside setting and independent spirit.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the overall performance of The Taybank, delivering budgets, revenue targets and long-term business objectives.
Analyse financial performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency and guest experience.
Support the continued development of the business, identifying new opportunities, partnerships and seasonal initiatives.
Ensure compliance with all legal, licensing and regulatory requirements.

Oversee the daily operation of the restaurant, rooms, gardens, kitchen, bar and events.
Maintain exceptional standards of hospitality, cleanliness, presentation and maintenance throughout the property.
Continuously review systems and procedures to improve efficiency and service.
Respond confidently to operational challenges and guest service issues.

Champion warm, personal hospitality that reflects The Taybank's values.
Monitor guest feedback and implement improvements where appropriate.
Build relationships with returning guests, local customers and visitors alike.
Resolve complaints professionally, ensuring positive outcomes wherever possible.

Manage budgets, forecasting, payroll and cost control alongside the finance team.
Monitor departmental performance, staffing levels and key commercial metrics.
Drive revenue through thoughtful pricing, occupancy, food and beverage performance, events and upselling opportunities.

Recruit, train and develop a motivated, high-performing team.
Foster a positive workplace culture built on trust, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Lead performance reviews, staff development and succession planning.
Promote staff wellbeing while ensuring compliance with employment and health & safety legislation.

Work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to maintain outstanding food quality, service standards and cost control.
Oversee the delivery of The Taybank's programme of events, including Long Table Dinners, open-air cinema screenings, live music, seasonal celebrations and private events.
Ensure every event reflects the quality, creativity and welcoming atmosphere for which The Taybank is known.

Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the building, gardens and riverside spaces.
Maintain high standards across guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house facilities.
Support ongoing improvements and investment in the property.

Minimum 5–7 years in a senior hotel management role, ideally as GM or Deputy/Operations Manager.
Experience in boutique or luxury hotel environments preferred.
Strong financial and commercial management skills.
Familiarity with PMS systems, revenue management platforms, and hospitality technology.
Hospitality or business management qualification is beneficial but not essential.
