The Taybank Dining Room
We’re delighted to welcome local craftsman Jamie Kunka, founder or Lonely Mountain Skis to the Taybank for a special Monday Makers evening and an intimate look at materials, making, and the quiet obsession that turns ideas into objects built for the mountains.
Jamie graduated as a product designer from DJCAD in Dundee in 2013. His final-year work explored ski production through a different lens: what might we rediscover by returning to traditional materials and time-honoured methods? That question led, in 2014, to the founding of Lonely Mountain Skis, a micro ski company based just across the river in Birnam producing high-end, custom-built skis.
Jamie’s work blends beautifully finished wood laminations with modern, high-performance materials, creating skis that are as striking to look at as they are capable on snow. Deeply fascinated by materials, he’s especially interested in how natural resources might point us toward a more thoughtful and more sustainable future of making.
Expect stories from the workshop, insights into design and process, and a generous dose of ski-fuelled passion.
Tickets cost £5 with Seasonal drinks available to purchase from the downstairs bar.
